COVER CEO discusses unified hololive vision for next 10 years in COVERedge interview
Summary
COVERedge has published an interview with COVER CEO Motoaki Tanigo following the September 7 "hololive Next" program. He explains the background to unifying regional and group divisions into a single hololive and outlines debuts, DEV_IS, overseas activities and the road to the 10th anniversary.
COVER Corporation's owned media COVERedge has published a new interview with CEO Motoaki Tanigo, looking back at the "hololive Next" program streamed on September 7 and explaining his thinking for the future of hololive.
In the program, the company announced that the divisions previously used for each region and group would be unified under the single name of hololive as it heads toward the 10th anniversary of hololive production. Tanigo says the decision was not meant to erase what has been built, but to carry it more widely into the future.
He looks back on how hololive expanded from Japan to Indonesia and English-speaking regions, each developing its own community and culture, alongside the unit-based challenge of hololive DEV_IS. As activities grew, however, those frameworks began to act as barriers to planning, content delivery, talent combinations and sharing production know-how. Under the mission of creating culture loved around the world, he wants VTubers to spread beyond borders of region and generation.
On points that drew concern after the announcement, he stresses that the individuality of each talent and the history built with fans will not be reset. Official YouTube channels and X accounts for different languages will continue, and information will still be delivered in each language. What will change is the thinking behind distribution: from which group a talent belongs to, to which language the viewer wants to receive information in.
Future debuts will be presented as units rather than numbered generations such as 7th or 8th generation, continuing the approach used since Secret Society holoX and holoh3ro. Upcoming Japanese-speaking unit Asobi Mawaritai! joins that lineage, while existing generation names will remain unchanged. For DEV_IS, unit channel operations will continue, and the management experience gained through ReGLOSS and FLOW GLOW will be extended to hololive as a whole to give the members a larger stage.
For fans of hololive Indonesia and hololive English, Tanigo says the move is preparation to strengthen overseas activities, not to scale them down. It should become easier for talents regardless of region to join large projects in live events, music, merchandise and anime, and to bring strengths nurtured overseas back into hololive as a whole.
With less than a year to the 10th anniversary, he positions "hololive Next" as the keyword for the next ten years: growth, evolution into a place where talents can be active beyond language and region, and welcoming the next generation. Further plans will be shared through talent streams and future editions of "hololive Next."
The interview is available in Japanese and English on COVERedge.
