COVER details Self Booth 3D system expanding 3D streaming

Summary

COVER's COVERedge has published a behind-the-scenes feature on Self Booth 3D, a system expanding possibilities for 3D streaming. Using markerless capture, talents can start 3D streams on their own in everyday clothes, with full operation underway since May 2025. Six members from the technology and streaming teams discuss its creation and future.

COVER Corporation announced on September 24 that its owned media COVERedge has published a feature on Self Booth 3D, a streaming setup designed to make 3D broadcasts more accessible. The system uses Captury, a markerless motion-capture solution from DARI Motion, Inc., to digitize a performer's skeleton in real time from camera images alone. Without special suits or markers, talents can walk into a booth in everyday clothes and start a 3D stream through an intuitive app they operate themselves. Full-scale use began in May 2025 and has since enabled formats that were difficult before, including karaoke streams, dance-lesson projects and outdoor location shoots. The article brings together six staff members from the Technology Development Department, which builds the software, and the Stream Technology Department, which handles studio operation. They trace the project back to a prototype verification of Captury shared from the CTO office around February 2025, followed by hands-on trials for talent managers that helped the idea spread to talents. The teams describe how preparation shrank from at least three days of studio booking plus months of planning for conventional 3D to essentially one day and as little as one to two weeks from request to execution. Memorable uses cited include Usada Pekora and Yukihana Lamy's rubber-band watermelon-splitting challenge, Aragami Ouga of HOLOSTARS learning dance from Hakos Baelz, Yuukoku Roberu's year-end stream, Roboco-san's 3D studio collaboration and Shishiro Botan's ramen-tour segment. Staff describe Self Booth 3D as a casual, everyday counterpart to high-end anniversary 3D lives, and say they will continue improving tracking quality, operability and portable use, including ideas such as cooking projects.
