JAXA Researcher Discusses Its Collaboration With Hoshimachi Suisei and hololive
Summary
COVERedge interviews JAXA researcher Dr. Go Murakami about the agency’s continuing connection with hololive production and Hoshimachi Suisei. The feature looks back on the 2024 campaign, the viral *Bibbidiba JAXA ver.* video, and VTubers’ potential for science outreach.
COVERedge has published an interview with Dr. Go Murakami of JAXA’s Institute of Space and Astronautical Science on the connection between JAXA Sagamihara Campus and hololive production.
The relationship began with the October 2024 “Get to Know Hoshimachi Suisei” campaign, which linked Hoshimachi Suisei with JAXA’s Mercury exploration work and Sagamihara City. The project included a collaborative livestream, a giveaway, and a short *Bibbidiba* dance video featuring the JAXA team and the city’s mayor and vice mayor.
JAXA staff later produced the full parody video *Bibbidiba JAXA ver.* with permission from Hoshimachi Suisei and COVER; it has passed 500,000 views. Murakami says the collaboration helped the agency reach communities it had found difficult to engage, while showing how VTubers can support accessible science outreach. The interview also notes continued exchanges, including a recent location shoot at the campus for Tsunomaki Watame’s YouTube channel.
